POM works with the injured worker and his/her employer to treat injuries, educate them in injury prevention and return them to productive professional and personal lifestyles. POM’s practitioners provide initial injury treatment, and assist the employer in providing modified duty work programs, if indicated, that are safe for the employee yet productive for the employer. Our injury Management Program stresses aggressive case management. Case managers are responsible for each injury case – keeping close contact with the employers and providers to control medical claims costs.

Piedmont Occupational Medicine is accredited by the Drug Alcohol Testing Industry Association (DATIA) as a drug screen collection site. All drug screens are collected by Certified Professional Collectors. POM is also a participant in the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce’s “Drugs Don’t Work Program.” Medical Review Officer services are provided on-site. Certified Breath Alcohol technicians perform breath alcohol testing, after hour drug and alcohol testing is available 24 hours a day. On-site testing is available. Drug screening services include:

Early and aggressive rehabilitation of acutely injured workers has been proven to promote quicker healing and quicker return to unlimited work activities. POM provides comprehensive rehabilitation services using an “Industrial Athlete” approach to promote effective injury management protocols. Our therapists provide intense one-on-one injury specific exercise protocols, effective use of therapeutic modalities, and injury prevention training. To assist in a complete case management of an injured worker, POM also provides comprehensive return to work rehabilitation programs to assure safe and productive return to gainful employment. With the purchase of our facility at 124 Third Street, POM added a positive tax base to Bibb County, as the previous owner was a non-profit organization and did not pay property taxes.

POM employees a stable staff of more than 40 employees.

In 2018, POM brought in over 44,000 patient visits to the Downtown Macon area. Thus, exposing these customers to other businesses in the Downtown area.

In 2018, POM served over 1,800 businesses in the Central Georgia Area.

Our highly qualified professional team consists of board certified physicians, certified medical review officer, board certified radiologists, registered nurses, certified radiologic laboratory technologists, certified medical assistants, physical therapists, occupational therapists, licensed physical therapist assistants, certified occupational therapist assistants, certified industrial hygienists, certified safety professionals, certified hearing conservationists, certified breath alcohol technicians, certified professional collectors, certified work capacity evaluators, certified impairment evaluators, certified ergonomic evaluators, patient account representatives, and patient account specialists.

Results are usually available within 24-36 hours for lab-based collections. We also offer instant 5-panel drug testing with results in 20 minutes.

If the results of the exam are normal, an exam is required once every two years. If medical issues are involved, DOT exams may be required in less than two years (e.g., once every 6 months).

Piedmont Occupational Medicine are staffed by board-certified physicians who are skilled in the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. All of our providers—physicians, physician assistants, nurses and radiological technicians—are dedicated to providing excellent medical care in a compassionate, respectful manner.

Most patients are treated and released in about an hour. However, visit times vary depending on the number of patients at POM, the severity of their injuries or illness, and the required diagnostic tests.

We encourage all Piedmont Occupational Medicine clients to make an appointment for specialty physicals and Workers’ Compensation follow-up visits.
